About
ArchMS is a platform for archetype and clinical data management and exploitation using semantic web technologies. It is able to work with openEHR and ISO 13606 archetypes and offers the following functionality:
- Archetype management: Allows importing ADL openEHR and ISO 13606 archetypes and validate their semantic consistency.
Transforms them from openEHR into ISO 13606 and viceversa and represents them in OWL, which supports archetype management tasks such as comparison and search.
The system also implements archetypes similarity-based search using semantic criteria. For these tasks ArchMS uses the services offered by
PoseacleConverter and Archeck. ArchMS also
implements semantic methods for querying the base of archetypes
- EHR data management: ArchMS permits to import archetype-based EHR extracts in XML format.
Such extracts are used by ArchMS for different purposes. On the one hand, for the transformation of the XML content into RDF and OWL using
the services offered by our Semantic Web Integration Tool (SWIT).
On the other hand, for extracting a simplified semantic representation of the clinical data of the patient, named semantic profiles of the patient.
A semantic profile is the result of extracting the semantic categories to which the EHR of the patient belongs to by analysing both the archetypes used
to capture the EHR data and the proper EHR data. Besides, ArchMS allows the visualization of the EHR extracts, suited to the user
profile (patient or professional). The EHR extracts can also be created within
the system by using the ArchForms generator, a tool that allows the automatic generation of data entry applications from archetypes
- Content annotation: ArchMS allows the annotation of archetypes, clinical data and learning resources (e.g. a clinical guideline)
using biomedical ontologies and terminologies.
In the case of archetype annotation, the system is able to suggest annotations by querying repositories of ontologies like Bioportal and
reusing annotations from similar archetypes
- Secondary use of clinical data: ArchMS permits exploiting their EHR data repositories. It allows classifying patients according to clinical protocols or
guidelines and making recommendations based on EHR data
ArchMS has been implemented by the TECNOMOD group of the Department of Informatics and Systems from the University of Murcia. The team responsible for the project includes:
